Fractional Parts of Bernoulli Numbers
The sequence {B2}, {B4}, {B6}, ... is dense in the unit interval [0, 1], but it is not uniformly distributed [4]. Certain rational numbers appear with positive probability: 1/6 is most likely with probability 0.151..., 29/30 is next with probability 0.064... [5]. In fact, the limiting distribution F is piecewise linear with countably many jump discontinuities: F increases only when jumping (see...
متن کاملFractional parts of Dedekind sums
Using a recent improvement by Bettin and Chandee to a bound of Duke, Friedlander and Iwaniec (1997) on double exponential sums with Kloosterman fractions, we establish a uniformity of distribution result for the fractional parts of Dedekind sums s(m,n) with m and n running over rather general sets. Our result extends earlier work of Myerson (1988) and Vardi (1987). Using different techniques, w...
متن کاملOn the Fractional Parts of a/n
We give various results about the distribution of the sequence {a/n}n≥1 modulo 1, where a ≥ 2 is a fixed integer. In particular, we find and infinite subsequence A such that {a/n}n∈A is well distributed. Also we show that for any constant c > 0 and a sufficiently large N , the fractional parts of the first N terms of this sequence hit every interval J ⊆ [0, 1] of length |J | ≥ cN−0.475.
متن کاملEuler's Constant and Averages of Fractional Parts
Euler’s constant is defined by γ := limy→∞ (∑ n≤y 1/n− log y ) = 0.5772156649 . . . . There is a huge amount of literature on this famous mathematical constant among which we just refer to the book [2] and the references therein. Like π or e, Euler’s constant γ appears in many number-theoretic identities and relations; see, e.g., [5]. One of these is a result from de la Vallée Poussin [4] from ...
متن کاملThe Distribution of Spacings between Fractional Parts of Lacunary Sequences
A primary example is to take an integer g ≥ 2 and set a(x) = g. As is true for any increasing sequence of integers, for almost every α the fractional parts αa(x) are uniformly distributed modulo 1. Moreover, for lacunary sequences, it has long been known that the fractional parts of αa(x) have strong randomness properties. For instance, the exponential sums 1 √ N ∑ x≤N cos(2παa(x)) have a Gauss...
